Accademia Unidee joins the #WIDD2020 with an online dialogue between Luisa Bocchietto and Karl Stocker. The topic of World Industrial Design Day 2020 is “Design for everyday life”.
During the dialogue both the panelists will unpack the connections between Sustainability, Democracy and Design.
Since De Certeau focussed on the Everyday as a societal issue, the purpose of Design evolved new experimental practices engaging with Society and their needs and urgencies. The current pandemics situation requires a renewed effort from both scholars and practitioners in envisioning how designing a better world.
While Luisa Bocchietto will explore how contemporary Design is going beyond raw objects and products through involving systems, processes and services for promoting sustainability, prof. Karl Stocker will delve into the social implications of design and how commitment and engagement may generate a sustainable future.
The dialogue is introduced by a message from the WDO President, Mr. Srini Srinivasan.
Luisa Bocchietto
Luisa Bocchietto, architect and designer. She work as a freelancer with her own studio undertaking projects for local development, building renovations, urban planning and the spread of design quality. She is part of Accademia Unidee and she teaches in other universities and design schools, takes part in design conferences and international juries, publishes articles and organizes exhibitions on architecture and design.
She was a member of the Italian Design Council at the Ministry for Cultural Heritage, of the Polidesign Consortium of the Milan Polytechnic, of the CIDIC Italo-Chinese Council for Design and Innovation and the CNAC National Anti-Counterfeiting Council at the Ministry of Economic Development. From 2008 until 2014, she was National President of ADI (Association for Industrial Design) in Italy. She is the former President of the World Design Organization.
Karl Stocker
Prof. Karl Stocker, PhD, is a historian and head of Department Exhibition Design and Information Design at FH JOANNEUM – University of Applies Sciences Graz and professor at the Graz University (since 1988) and Kassel University 1996/97. He is also a lecturer at University of Krems, University of Arts Berlin and Yildiz Technical University Istanbul. Founder and a director of BISDATO Exhibition & Museum Design since 1990, he authored edited books and scientific contributions. He is manager of scientific research projects, director of exhibitions and a member of Graz UNESCO City of Design board.
His last book is “Socio-Design – Relevant Projects: Design For Society”.
